Frequently asked questions
If you're a nature lover, enjoy endless walks on the beach, or want to recharge your batteries in peace and quiet, definitely yes. The area is also ideal for families with children, as great places like Khao Sok National Park, the Similan Islands, and Phang Nga Bay are nearby.
This place is less recommended for party-hungry types, as it tends to be quieter. But that doesn't mean you can't party here at all.
No, there's no such thing here. But if you'd like to try it, you can book a trip to Patong on Phuket through us. You'll find such action there! 🙏Let us know when, and we'll be happy to organize a transfer for you.
Good question. There are so many excellent restaurants here that master the art of cooking that it's almost impossible to name them all.
I would look for restaurants where locals also eat and not just tourists.
These include, for example:
Khun Aek in Ban Niang (opposite Ban Niang School)
Nai Muang Restaurant (between Khao Lak center & Ban Niang)
Mae & Pa Restaurant (between Ban Niang and Khao Lak center)
Lao Leu Restaurant in Thung Chimney
Kruay Nai Ang in Khuk Khak (opposite Khao Laks gas station)
Mookata (Barbeque): directly at the Mother Marche supermarket
etc...
Be sure to visit restaurants outside your hotel. They're always worth a visit. Cheap and delicious. Just pack mosquito repellent to avoid getting bitten.
Have fun exploring and enjoying culinary delights. 🍴
"Phuket International" (airport code: HKT) is the nearest international airport. It is located approximately 65-80 kilometers from Khao Lak, depending on where your hotel is located in Khao Lak. The airport transfer, which you can also book through us, takes approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes and costs from 1,500 baht each way.
In the 1970s, Khao Lak was still a relatively unknown fishing village. Over the decades, "Khao Lak" (translated: Khao Lak Mountain) has developed into a 30-kilometer-long coastal strip with an international flair. The highway-like road runs right through the center of town and is not without its dangers!
Khao Lak now consists of over 50 hotels located on approximately 12 beach areas along the coast.
The most famous beaches are:
- Ban Niang beach
- Nang Thong Beach
- Khuk Khak Beach
- Bangsak Beach, etc.
To the north (the town of Takuapa) and south of Khao Lak (the village of Thai Muang), the area begins to become more rural. About 45 km to the east, it becomes more mountainous and home to tropical rainforest (Khao Sok National Park, up to 1,000 meters high), and to the west, the Similan and Surin Islands (about 60-80 km away) await you in the middle of the shimmering Andaman Sea. 🌴
Bang Niang Market is the largest and most tourist-friendly market. Open Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday from approximately 3:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., it's a great place to browse. From street food and delicious fruit shakes to cozy little bars and souvenirs, you'll find everything your heart desires. Take your time exploring. Feel free to haggle a little—the Thais like that. But not too much, please, or they'll close down.
Build Market: About 1.5 km north of Bang Niang Market, it is open almost daily during the high season from November to April. This market is smaller and is closed during the off-peak season from June to September. Definitely worth a visit during the high season!
Khuk Khak Fresh Market, just 2 km further north, is an authentic food market. Open daily from around 5:30 a.m. to around 11:00 a.m., you'll find fresh fruit, vegetables, fish, meat, and pre-packaged food there. Want to know what the locals eat? Then you've come to the right place. A must-see during your Khao Lak vacation.
Market (near the gas station) Open daily from around 3:00 PM, it attracts locals after work looking to satisfy their hunger. Whether it's chicken satai, freshly prepared som tam salad, sweets, fruit, or more, this is a market you definitely shouldn't miss! Enjoy a chilled beer at the market and watch the hustle and bustle in peace.
Takuapa Old Town (open from approximately mid-November to mid-April) Witness the town dressing up on Sunday afternoons: Stroll through Takuapa's old town between nostalgic houses and temples and enjoy souvenirs, sweets, and much more.
Your local taxi will take you to each waterfall and back. Drivers are flexible. It's best to discuss the final price and any special requests before the trip. At the end of the trip, pay your agreed price, plus a small tip if applicable.
- Chong Fah Waterfall (100 baht entrance fee, open 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.). Located about 7 km inland. In our opinion, the most impressive in Khao Lak. Simply take the "Moo 5" side road past the mini golf course. Continue past rubber tree plantations and small houses until you reach the entrance booth. Taxi fare is about 300 baht each way. Scooters are also an option (helmet and driver's license required). Tip: pack sturdy shoes, mosquito repellent, sunscreen, swimsuit, camera, and drinking water. The ticket is also valid for Lamru National Park on the same day.
- Sairung Waterfall at Beyond Resort
- Tonpling Waterfall at Eden Beach.
Depending on the hotel location, the taxi costs between 200 - 500 baht each way.
- Lampi Waterfall about 20 km south of Khao Lak towards Thai Muang
- Sri Phang Nga Waterfall (about 50 km north)
* Both cost 100 baht to enter and are truly special. Taxi fares here range from approximately 800-1000 baht each way.
Have fun cooling off and always pack drinking water, mosquito repellent, money, and sunscreen.👍
The taxis here in Khao Lak are converted pick-up trucks with a rain- and sun-protected back. They seat a maximum of six people, and you'll see them practically everywhere in Khao Lak. You sit opposite each other on two benches in this "private taxi."
The prices are:
to/from Bang Niang/Khao Lak center: approx. 200-300 Baht/way.
to/from Taplamu (turtle farm) or Bangsak Beach: approx. 400-500 Baht/way
to/from Ban Nam Khem Tsunami Memorial or Takuapa Old Town: approx. 600-700 Baht/way
Lampi Waterfall or Sri Phang Nga Waterfall: approx. 800-1000 Baht/way
Tip: These are taxis without meters. Agree on the price before the ride and pay the total amount at the end of the journey.
In addition, there are also "4-hour taxis" or "8-hour taxis":
These are air-conditioned and comfortable minibuses or cars that you can book through us.
Discuss the route beforehand and check out the exciting highlights of this area.
Ultimately, everyone has to decide for themselves. As long as you have driving experience, have an international motorcycle or car license, and are comfortable driving on the left, there's nothing stopping you from driving a moped or car in Khao Lak. You're more flexible than taking a taxi, but there are also risks, such as more reckless driving, stray dogs, and fewer police.
Tip : If you need scooter or car rental recommendations, we can gladly put you in touch.
We can reassure you. Apart from geckos, ants, and tiny spiders, almost nothing ever strays into the hotel area. Even though we're located in the heart of the tropics and close to the Khao Sok rainforest, you don't need to worry.
Of course, more exotic insects also exist in the jungle.
But you hardly ever see them because they avoid people.
Unfortunately, elephant riding is still popular and quite widespread in Thailand, much to the detriment of these gentle and highly intelligent animals.
During all elephant- related excursions, we only visit camps where riding or sitting on elephant backs is guaranteed.
With a bit of luck, you can either observe them in the wild in Khao Sok National Park or feed, wash, and bathe them in a sanctuary-like camp. You can book these types of excursions with us without worry.
You can buy local mosquito sprays in almost every supermarket, mini market or 7/11.
The active ingredient is lemongrass essence, and it works reliably for 1-2 hours. It also costs only a fraction of the price (40-70 baht) of the ones you buy in Germany, and it contains almost no chemicals.
Conclusion : Buy it here immediately after arriving in Thailand.
For many Thailand vacationers, traditional Thai massages (along with delicious food) are a must and the reason they come to Thailand. With the huge number of massage salons, you can't avoid them.
In almost every hotel you will find "spa areas" where you can indulge in relaxation - at European prices.
But you'll also find something to suit you on the beach or in Khao Lak itself. The quality there isn't necessarily inferior to that of your hotel. It's guaranteed to be cheaper, and even much cheaper. Just give it a try. You certainly won't be disappointed. Massages in the resort start at around 350 baht per hour.
